Around the end of October, Five Foot Zero officially split up. It's the classic story of not knowing what's best for the band.
As the story goes, they received word from their producer regarding initiatives in getting signed. They were informed that if the band would just back up (lead singer/songwriter) Steven Baghdadi, they'd have more success in getting signed, as the one-man-band often gets more appeal/recognition with media labels.
After that, the relationship between Dave and Steve quickly deteriorated. Things like that usually happen because Steve no longer feels as though he has to put up with any shit. So, with that, the abuse began. They started working on a song they had just made up on the spot and Dave was tooling around with basslines for the project. Steve snaps at him and tells him that he could get a studio bassist if Dave can't get the basslines right on the first few takes.
Dave calls me up, practically crying. I tell him that he should stick it out and see what happens. Five Foot Zero isn't something you just walk away from. BUT, if Steveis just going to stand there and verbally abuse him because he knows he'll stay, then he has to leave. And, yes, Steve isn't going to care... but a person can't be relegated into that situation after all the years of loyalty.
So Dave left. Told Steve that this attitude is going to tear this band apart, starting with Dave.
As far as royalties, whatever... I don't know. All I know now is that Dave is trying to get into talent management. I don't know how successful Steve is going to be. Al I know is how sad this situation is.. and how another band with great potential got torn apart over money.
