October News:
October's Bob's kind of month, so that means it's a BFN kind of month, too. (Like we care about the fragile well-being and sensitive nature of the co-hosts anyway . . .)
Take note:
October 3 - The Great Michigan Cow Hop
This is the 5th year anniversary of the Great Michigan Cow Hop. Bob Dubilina, Psycho Dave, Madison Rosbar and Acid Junkie ran over a dead cow on Highway 131 in Michigan on this fateful night at 3:35 a.m. CT. We're still alive, the car's still alive, the cow's still dead, so we're celebrating. . . WITH MEAT! The theme for this month is BEEF, people, so get out there and gorge away.
October 7-21 - 40th Chicago International Film Festival
The Chicago International Film Festival -- the only Chicago event that Bob wets himself over -- is here! If you'd like to party with the BFN gang, check Bob's and Dave's forums for their film schedules. The selection this year looks pretty amazing, so why don't you come on down and join our two-week crusade against sunlight and fresh air!

October 9 - Lucero's Fortune
Lucero's pulling through town to promote their forthcoming record. It's alt-country's finest at The Bottom Lounge. If you're hankering for some white trash booty in the form of a Brittany Murphy look-alike (or even a case of PBR), get it here.

October 22 - Two-for-Two Rockfest: Genesis & Ike Reilly
The Musical Box is the the first band ever to get the license to perform Genesis' 1974 rock opera The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. (It's about a young gutter snipe named Rael and his quest to escape the underworld that he's stuck in. You can read my favorite thesis of Peter Gabriel's epic tale by clicking on the link below.) The reconstruction -- complete with costumes and the original '74 slideshow -- will be playing one night only at the Vic Theater at 7:30 p.m. DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW!

The Lamb... Thesis: members.aol.com/jsd1996475/index2.html
Once your brains have been completely progged, it's best to hit the bar. And who else would you rather go drinking with than The Ike Reilly Assassination? Ike and the crew will be partying just up the street from the Vic at The Bottom Lounge at 10:00 p.m. This is their album-release party for Sparkle in the Finish, so it's guaranteed that this will be one wild show.

October 24 - Flickerstick It!
If you're in the mood for a little more bombast in your rock'n'roll, come to the Double Door to party with Flickerstick. They're on tour to promote their sophomore album Tarantula. C'mon, help put these guys on the map . . . again . . . without all the VH-1 hype . . . uh, yeah!

October 29 - Michael Burks, Marathon Man
Tireless bluesman Michael Burks (seriously, his sets tend to hit the 4-hour mark) returns to St. Charles, IL this month. BFN plans on making a convoy out to Chord On Blues, so if you want to hop on board, you send Bob a note.

October 30 (Nevada)/31 (rest of the world) - Halloween
Well, well, if it isn't the one holiday that you can shamelessly flaunt your fetishes and "pretend" that it's all a big joke. (Right, Chad?) While we've yet to find the perfect costume for 2004, we do know for certain that Bob will be an extremely happy man when his girlfriend dons this little number:
Hey there, Little Red Riding Hood. Watch this wolf grin! Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah!
Also, check out the new releases from our Spotlight Artists:
The Great Crusades - Welcome to the Hiawatha Inn
Joseph Arthur - Our Shadows Will Remain
The Ike Reilly Assassination - Sparkle in the Finish
Flickerstick - Tarantula
Pinback - Summer in Abaddon
Jimmy Eat World - Futures
Mark Knopfler - Shangri-La
And don't forget to grab a copy of Ray Bradbury's The October Country! This is his month, too!
Boo!
