Morcheeba / Charango - Think of walking into a Starbucks, no, scratch that, your favorite bar, and ordering your favorite drink... that first sip, smooooooth, and it feels so good just sliding down your throat, just like the new CD from Morcheeba. The perpetual masters of Trip-Hop, Morcheeba just keeps laying it on thick and smoove with Charango, their latest release. And with a songs like What New York Couples Fight About and Women Loose Weight, how can you go wrong?
The Tea Party / TRIPtych - Yeah, I know this is an old CD. Never did it say anywhere on here that we only had to renew new stuff. So I popped TRPtych into my car's CD player a few days ago, and I haven't been able to stop playing this disk. My mechanic says it's jammed in there real good, so I guess I'm stuck listening to this one for a bit. Hey, it could be worse... I could have been stuck with Los Del Rio's Macarena, right?
Beth Orton / Daybreaker - Oooh, they don't make enough of these... beautiful voice, great guitar lines, light techno influence a la William Orbit... This being Beth's third time 'round, she's really hit a stride in her music, and this CD just keeps it coming. Only one song ticks me off, and sure enough, it's the first single from the album. Could I possibly be more out of tune with the record industry?
Amy Correia / Carnival Love - This CD came out two years ago, and I just picked it up at Laurie's on Lincoln for cheap... and what a steal it was. A sort of cross between Ambrossia Parsley (from Shivaree), Alanis Morrisette, and a touch of Ani DeFranco, Amy Correia has one of these sad voices that just haunts me. This is a first album, and so some of the tracks aren't as strong as they could be, but wow... the Potential! Unfortunately, it seems that Amy's fallen off the face of the Earth, so I have no clue if there's going to be another CD in her future. I hope so, since I'd love to hear what she sounds like two years later.
Coldplay / A Rush of Blood to the Head - Oh my lord... I don't think that I can stop listening to this CD. It's just so refined, so perfect... I mean, Parachutes was good, but this, THIS... is incredible. Year's Top Ten, for sure.
