Yeah, I know it’s a little late in the game to be releasing a “Best Songs of 2004” compilation, but I wanted things to be perfect. And after five months of toiling away at the keyboard long past midnight, I’m quite excited to achieve my goal. Just to hold a finished copy of Knuckle Sammich in my hands is a cathartic experience because it gives reason to wax nostalgic about one of the most frustrating years of my life. I’ve found a way to preserve these bittersweet memories without allowing the anger and resentment they once inspired to weigh me down. After all, shitty year or not, it’s still my year, and it doesn’t deserve to be treated like it never happened. (That would truly make it a waste.) Simply put, this was my life in 2004; I lived it accordingly and discovered awesome music to help me along the way.
To that effect, I would first like to acknowledge the artists featured on this soundtrack. I have such monumental respect for each and every one of them not only for being so talented at what they do but also because they were able to get right to the heart of the matter and say everything I wanted to say (or needed to hear). Even after 8000 words of commentary, I cannot even begin to describe how much their music inspired me to keep swinging long after everyone stopped cheering and went home. In turn, I hope that they do the same for you. Better yet, I hope any one of their songs on KS2004 inspires you to go out and actually purchase their music. Now that would be some kind of wonderful.
I would like to thank Jennifer DeRiemer for designing such kick-ass CD covers and labels. It’s not every day that I rendezvous with an old friend and recruit her services for my own sinister purposes; truth be told, mixing business and pleasure with her has been an honor. I dread the thought of what Knuckle Sammich would have looked like without her amazing talent and playful sense of humor. Although it took longer than we both expected, the final product is glorious. I hope that this soundtrack falls into the right hands and she gets work that actually pays. Until that happens, her ass belongs to BFN.

I would also like to PROFUSELY thank left-hand man Chad Wilkens for his last-minute printing skills. Before I could even finish my woeful tale regarding a colossal snafu in the first round of printing, he willingly(!) volunteered to finish the job. Although KS2004 was essentially a solo effort, I was overjoyed to have the Chadmaster on my team when it came to formatting and printing. As much as I hate to admit it, when it comes to aesthetics, the ever-so-efficient Baron von Wilkens knows what he’s talking about.
Finally, last but not least, extra special thanks goes to Jen-Kitty, my pseudo-current-ex-girlfriend (yeah, it’s a mouthful, but we’re working on it), for understanding that writing about past grievances doesn’t necessarily affect present/future endeavors. As difficult as it was to hammer out all the details of what went wrong, I think it’s fair to say that it was worse for her to read it over my shoulder, especially at a time when the pressure was on her to adopt a more positive outlook on our relationship. However, KS2004 is nothing more than a testimony of my life. Without a doubt, she played the biggest part in it. She still does. I know it’s not easy being lumped in with the bad stuff, but that’s just how 2004 played out. One chapter ends, another begins. Turn the page.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot – THANK YOU for listening. I truly hope you enjoy your Knuckle Sammich. Now get out of here before I take it all back!
Put a little love in it,
